Such a person as Maia Sandu can help the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the whole ruling alliance to overcome the difficulties, considers publicist and analyst Petru Bogatu. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Bogatu said that this candidate is a chance for the PLDM to recover and a possibility for it to become again what it was in 2009 and 2010.
“The moment is now favorable for Maia Sandu because, if she is invested, she will face the risk of being ‘beheaded’, but the ‘beheading’ of the Prime Minister in this situation will also mean the suicide of the executioners and I think the executioners realize this,” said Petru Bogatu, quoted by IPN.
According to him, Maia Sandu is practically the only person who can obtain swiftly what all the parties that now are creating the alliance expect – Western financing without which Moldova is suffocating.”Maia Sandu promoted not at all popular reforms that caused dissatisfaction. From this viewpoint, she is a politician who evidently scares, especially knowing the experience of Monica Macovei and Traian Basescu. She scares many people, including those who want this rotten, corrupt and oligarchic system to be kept,” he stated.
Within the same discussion, analyst and publicist Vitalie Ciobanu said a politician must struggle for the own credibility, while the context now is disastrous given the stealing of money from the banking system, etc. In such conditions, there is no room for experiments and games behind the scenes. “Maia Sandu will take up in a rather difficult period. The tubes conveying oxygen to fuel the governmental decision and the initiative of the Prime Minister have been cut. But I think she is aware of these difficulties and is ready to assume them,” he stated.
According to the analyst, Maia Sandu will have to improve the damaged image of this coalition. She is the reformist face, the bright image and the ‘iron lady’ who will have to prove that she has the same qualities and determination as Prime Minister.
The PLDM, PDM and PL continued the negotiations today as well. So far the only candidate fielded for premiership was Maia Sandu.
