Petrenco: There is no democracy in Moldova

Communist MP Grigore Petrenco declared at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that there is no democracy in Moldova, and no freedom in the Parliament. In his speech he referred to last week’s incident, when he was asked to leave the Parliament’s meeting; he also mention the revoking of NIT TV channel’s license, several months ago, reports Info-Prim Neo. “I am glad that I am able to speak freely at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, because there is no more freedom in the so-called Moldovan Parliament. Last Friday, the parliamentary majority decided to kick an MP out of the meeting for exposing his critical point of view at the central tribune. This is an example of our so-called democracy”, stated Grigore Petrenco on Wednesday, June 27. Petrenco asked rhetorically, what king of democracy is there in Moldova, when the only channel that criticizes the governing class and the entire press rests in the hands of two oligarchs who have the upper hand. “Dear colleagues, I would not want the Parliamentary Assembly, the European Council to be the only European structures left that are concerned with the functioning of democracy in our states”, mentioned the MP in the closing of his speech. At the Parliament meeting on June 22, the Parliament’s majority voted to exclude Petrenco from the meeting, after the latter made offensive comments to the governing alliance, during a debate over a law draft. After a half-hour break demanded by the Party of Communists, they have returned and declared that Petrenco would not leave the meeting, and would not apologize.
