Petition demands ‘school as usual’

The Chisinau-based NGO “Părinți Solidari” (Parents United) has started an online petition asking the National Commission on Public Health to review some of its coronavirus restrictions in schools.

In particular, the petitioners are against the one-meter rule in classes and say that dispensing with it will enable “school as usual”, meaning a physical presence for all children in classes.

The petitioners also plan to hold a protest rally outside the Government building on September 1.

“The actions and measures proposed by the authorities in the CNESP Decision no. 60 of August 23 will create or exacerbate other social problems with major impact: limited access to quality education, the emergence of other health problems, declining incomes for families with young schoolchildren, unemployment (especially among women), exposure of children to uncontrolled web content, school dropout, increased risks to the health and lives of children left unattended, impeded formation of social relationships with colleagues, and so on”, reads the petition.
