Peter Michalko: Organization of European Town shows Moldova is a European state

The Head of the Europeans Union Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said the European Town, which is staged in the central park of Chisinau on May 12 and 13, shows that the Republic of Moldova is a European state and the European Union wants Moldova to integrate into this community. The statement was made in a press briefing, IPN reports.

After making a tour of the tents put up by embassies of the EU member states, Peter Michalko said the European Union has very nice traditions and these are brought to Chisinau by projects that are implemented to improve the quality of the Moldovan citizens’ life. The signing by Moldova of the Association Agreement shows that the country abides by the European values and is thus offered the status of associatd country. This is his first participation in a European Town since he took up his duties and what he saw seems extraordinary to him.

The Head of the EU Delegation reminded that the European Year of Cultural Heritage and 70 years of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are celebrated this year. On the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the EU will launch a fund that will provide assistance for Moldova’s cultural heritage as well. The projects implemented in the area of cultural heritage help keep the inherited culture of a nation.

Peter Michalko called on the residents and guests of Chisinau to come to the central park in the evening to watch the Eurovision Song Contest. On May 13, the European Town will host a European Film and Culture Festival.
