The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said that even if he was criticized for the opinion he stated earlier, the position of the European community remains unchanged. He noted it is worrisome that persons involved in the bank fraud can take decisions about the investing of a new Government. The solving of the political crisis in Chisinau is the prerogative of the political class and the international community will only monitor the processes, IPN reports.
Even if he was earlier accused of interference in Moldova’s internal affairs and was criticized for his opinion about the PSRM-Shor majority, the EU ambassador said his stance didn’t change.
“It is very worrisome if persons who took part in the bank fraud can take part in the formation of a new Government. This has been the European Union’s position since the parliamentary elections even. We have spoken about the fight against corruption, the investigation of the bank fraud since then and said that the private interests do not have a place in the system of democratic politics of the Republic of Moldova,” Peter Michalko stated in the talk show “In Death” on ProTV Chisinau channel.
The diplomat responded to the criticism leveled at him earlier by the Socialists and representatives of the Shor Party, saying he will not change his opinion as some of the political players who initially said they want snap elections, but now try to avoid such elections.
“I see that rather those involved in the political life changed their attitude. We will continue to have the same clear position. I’m grateful to the NGOs of the Republic of Moldova that supported me. I received many messages of support from ordinary citizens,” stated diplomat.
He also said that the solving of the political crisis is within the remit of the political factors and the snap elections can be a solution to the crisis.
“The political life is the most important factor. I earlier said that all the parties in Parliament wanted snap elections. From this perspective, I think the snap elections can be a solution to this crisis. The crisis can be solved only by those who take political decisions in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Peter Michalko.
He noted that the Republic of Moldova is the first country in Europe that obtained COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX Facility and, in parallel with the immunization process, the authorities should take restrictive measures so as to contain the pandemic.
