Peter Michalko: EU and Moldova are very close

The European Union and the Republic of Moldova are very close, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko stated in a message disseminated on the occasion of Europe Day that is celebrated on May 9. According to him, the two sides build the relations of cooperation based on the Association Agreement, the visa-free regime and the support provided by the EU for improving the living standards of the Moldovan citizens, IPN reports.

Peter Michalko said that owing to the projects supported by the EU, the living standards of 1 million people will be improved. Five cities in Moldova and over 220 public buildings, schools and kindergartens are now heated better and cheaper thanks to the EU’s assistance. “One can now travel easier and faster in Moldova owing to the European Union. Over 700 km of roads were built with the European Union’s support,” stated the ambassador.

According to Peter Michalko, the EU also helps improve the public financial management standards and better and more credibly use the public finances. The EU invests in the extension and improvement of vocational education and in the creation of Centers of Excellence. “Together with the EU member states, we bring the best European practices by reforming key sectors of the economy, such as health, customs, food safety, fight against corruption and preservation of cultural heritage,” noted the Head of the EU Delegation.
