Persons without medical education to be banned from performing invasive aesthetic procedures

The Ministry of Health will ban persons without medical education from performing invasive aesthetic procedures that include the injection of dangerous substances. Such a decision was taken after a number of women complained about side effects after undergoing such procedures. For the purpose, a working group was set up to assess the national cosmetology and aesthetic medicine service and to work out relevant regulations, IPN reports.

Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said the regulations will be thought up within two months and will define the skills and responsibilities of persons who will perform invasive aesthetic procedures. The document will enable the Ministry to monitor the quality of the provided aesthetic medicine services.

Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health Rodica Scutelnic said the quality could be monitored if these services are accredited. “This is stipulated by the law on the accreditation and assessment of medical institutions. If a beauty center, besides providing makeup services, also injects Botox, it means that it provides medical services that must be accredited,” she stated.

The working group consists of 19 persons who are representatives of the Ministry of Health, doctors of medical sciences in dermatology and directors of authorized aesthetic medicine centers.
