The persons suffering from hearing impairments may soon be unable to understand each other as the sign language used in specialized schools for children with such impairments is different, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ruslan Lopatiuc, head of the Association of the Deaf of Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo that there is a problem as the children with hearing impairments use different signs in communication and they cannot understand each other. He also said that the professionalism of the teachers working in the specialized schools is low. Another cause for such a situation is that the children invent signs and thus encounter difficulties when communicating. This happens mainly between generations, said Natalia Babici, who works as a translator for the Association of the Deaf of Moldova. She stated that a common sign language should be used and observed in Moldova. Therefore, the sign language should be declared official language for the given group of people. The members of the Association consider that a center should be created for training teachers and the parents of children suffering from hearing impairments so that they know sign language at state level. There are over 5,000 persons with hearing impairments in Moldova.
