Two persons from the districts of Rezina and Cahul are suspected of trafficking in children. These purportedly organized and transported 59 minors to Greece on the pretext to take part in an international dance festival. When in Greece, the children danced on a private cruise ships and in other places, IPN reports, quoting Elita TV.
According to Lilian Levandovski, head of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons of the National Investigations Inspectorate, the investigation into this case started last July and a number of searches at the homes of involved persons were carried out in the two districts and in the municipality of Chisinau. When they came to Greece, the children were taken to give performances and amuse persons on cruise ships and other places. The children didn’t take part in the festival about which their parents were informed.
Lilian Levandovski noted that the two persons are investigated as suspects, but weren’t arrested. Legal action was taken over trafficking in children and the persons to blame face 10 to 15 years behind bars.
According to the quoted source, the parents should inform themselves in detail about the organizers and accommodation and transport conditions when they accept to allow their children to go to events abroad. They should also be sure the minors reached the destination and the agreed program is respected.
