Persons suspected of printing fake papers released

The men who are suspected of publishing the fake newspapers “Timpul de Chisinau” and “Ziarul de Chisinau”, which are copies of the papers “Timpul de dimineata” and “Ziarul de Garda”, were set free from arrest, but banned from leaving the country. Lieutenant colonel Chiril Motpan, head of the Ministry of the Interior’s Public Relations Division, has told Info-Prim Neo that the Ministry is surprised by this decision of the court as house arrest is not an appropriate measure in the circumstances of the given case. “The release of the suspects arouses concerns as the witnesses may be influenced and the evidence destroyed. The suspects can have meetings with those who commissioned the papers or intermediaries to coordinate the subsequent steps. We believe that sufficient proofs were provided to support the accusations,” said Chiril Motpan. According to Motpan, the Ministry of the Interior continues to investigate the case and collect evidence. On May 13, the specialized services of the Ministry of the Interior arrested two men who are suspected of publishing the fake issues “Timpul de Chisinau” and “Ziarul de Chisinau”. During a search of the apartment rented by the two, there were found numbers of the fake papers, computation equipment and samples of false papers in Ukrainian.
