Persons holding letters of guarantee will benefit from state indemnities

The persons who hold letters of guarantee for obtaining preferential loans for building and purchasing dwellings or repairing homes, issued by the local public authorities by January 1, will receive lump sum indemnities from the state budget. The indemnity is equal to the sum indicated in the letter of guarantee. A sum of over 23 million lei was earmarked for the purpose, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, Liberal-Democrat MP Ion Butmalai said the recipients of state indemnities include the veterans of the armed conflict on the Nistru and Afghan war, the participants in the Chernobyl cleanup efforts, World War II veterans, rehabilitated victims of political repression and their families. According to lawmaker Alexandru Cimbriciuc, the September 13 Government Decision will institute a new simplified mechanism for obtaining letters of guarantee from the public authorities of the second level. “A large part of the persons who are entitled to indemnities could not receive letters of guarantee until now owing to the bureaucratic barriers and difficult procedures for obtaining them. The amendments approved by the Government are timely and are aimed at improving the mechanism for providing state support to certain groups of people,” said MP Tudor Deliu. He stated the money for indemnities will be transferred by the Ministry of Finance to the local public authorities in accordance with the lists drawn up by special commissions. According to the MP, over 2,000 letters of guarantee for raising preferential loans have been issued so far. The September 13 Government Decision replaces the old system of preferential loans by the mechanism for granting lump sum indemnities.
