The perinatal schools in Tiraspol and Criuleni that are intended for pregnant women from Grigoriopol and Dubasari as well will be reorganized. The specialists will take part in refresher courses and the institutions will be outfitted with new equipment and furniture within the EU program “Support to Confidence Building Measures” that is implemented by UNDP, IPN reports.

“To ensure the psycho-emotional preparation for delivery without risks for the mother and fetus, we planned that the experience of organizing the perinatal school by volunteering and the curricula “Sweet mama” of the Mother and Child Institute of Chisinau will be transferred to the perinatal centers in Criuleni and Tiraspol so that these become friendly to the future mothers,” project coordinator Lilia Onea stated in the launch of the project.

Svetlana Jubirca, expert of the project, noted that the cooperation of pregnant women with the multidisciplinary team of the school, which consists of a gynecologist, neonatologist and psychologist, contributes to the positive psycho-emotional state of the pregnant woman. As a result, over 70% of the women who attend lessons at the perinatal school give birth naturally and the frequency of assisted deliveries tends to decline. These facts significantly reduce the risks of maternity,” said Svetlana Jubirca.

The project will last until the end of October. It costs almost €20,000.
