The people’s trust in the justice sector of Moldova increased three times in the past six months. According to the Public Opinion Barometer, 24% of those polled this April said they have trust in justice, as opposed to 7.8% last October, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Justice, this is due to the proper implementation in the period of a number of laws that refer to the Constitution, the Penal Code and the Penal Procedure Code, professions related to justice, declaration of property and personal interests, reorganization of the system of courts of law, etc.
At the same time, 2016 was a successful year owing to the implementation of the justice sector reform strategy and the removal of a number of shortcomings related to the judiciary, criminal justice, realization of human rights, access to justice and execution of court decisions.
The people’s trust in justice rose also owing to the implementation of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice Project in concert with the Moldovan judicial authorities. In this regard, it was recommended introducing such new instruments as the registers e-Execution, e-Notary, e-Arrest, e-Probation, e-Licenses, e-Organizations, e-Prosecution Service, e-File.
The Public Opinion Barometer is a program for investigating the opinions of people in Moldova, implemented by the Institute for Public Policy since 1998.
