The monthly disposable incomes of the population in 2022 were 4,252.7 lei on average per person, an increase of 21.2% compared with 2021. In real terms (adjusted to the consumer price index), the population’s incomes decreased by 5.9%. In towns, the incomes were 1,800 lei on average per person, 1.5 times higher than the incomes of the rural population, IPN reports.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, based on the Household Budget Survey, monthly population expenses in 2022 were 3,711.9 lei on average per person, up 22.1% on 2021. In real terms, the population’s expenses decreased by 5.1% compared with 2021.

Salary earnings represented 50.7% of the total incomes, almost the same figure as a year before. Social welfare constituted 20.3% of the monthly disposable incomes of the population, up 1.8 percentage points on 2021. The individual activities represented 14%: agricultural individual activities - 7.8%, while non-agricultural individual activities – 6.2%.

Money transfers from abroad remain a significant source for the household budget. In 2022, they constituted slightly over 12% of the total incomes, by 0.4 percentage points less than in 2021.

Money transfers accounted for 13.7% of the incomes of rural households and for 10.4% of those of urban households. Social welfare represented 23.8% of the rural population’s incomes, by 7% more than in the case or the urban population.
