People’s Assembly of Gagauzia sets day of legislative elections

The elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia of the sixth legislature will take place on November 20, 2016. A decision to this effect was taken in the September 5 meeting of the People’s Assembly, IPN reports, quoting the local press.

According to the news portal Gagauzinfo, the discussions centered on the dates of November 20 and 27 and December 4. By a majority of votes, the deputies decided that the elections will be held on November 20.  The chairman of the People’s Assembly Dmitry Constantinov said the new local legislative body must start the new year with an adopted budget. That’s why the elections should take place as soon as possible.

The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia includes 35 deputies who are elected for a four-year term in uninominal territorial constituencies by universal, equal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote. The meeting to constitute the current People’s Assembly was held on October 30, 2012.
