People without domicile will be able to vote

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided that the people without a place of residence or domicile will be able to cast ballots. Such a decision was taken because these persons weren’t taken into account in the previous elections and were thus unable to vote. The State Register of Citizens includes about 90,000 people with official identification papers, but without a domicile or place of residence stated officially, IPN reports.

The people without domicile or place of residence state officially will be able to vote according to the last place or residence or domicile registered. Those who never had such a place registered will be able to vote at any polling place. They will fill out an own responsibility statement to declare that they will not resort to multiple voting.

Before voting against the decision, CEC member Vadim Motsarski said that this decision is illegal, as is the decision allowing voting with documents with the expired period of validly.

CEC member Eduard Raducan noted that he does not understand the necessity of such a decision given that it runs counter to the Election Code and to other laws.

Another member of the Commission Vasile Gafton said this decision is in the people’s interests.

The decision was approved by six votes of the nine CEC members in favor.
