People will not feel burden of repayment of debt to National Bank, officials

The money that the state is to pay to the National Bank of Moldova following the bank frauds will not be fully the burden of the people. Moreover, the people will not feel this burden, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip assured in a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

Pavel Filip said the Government approved the draft law to transform the emergency loan provided by the central bank to the liquidated banks into state debt because this was the solution identified and discussed with the development partners, including the IMF. The Government is ready to accept another proposal, if this turns out to be better. “We asked that those who manipulate to stop it because not the whole debt will be repaired by the people. We are also waiting for a strategy for recovering the assets from Kroll,” stated the Premier.

Andrian Candu told the same news conference that the IMF requested finding solutions to recover this money, but how Moldova will actually do it is an internal matter.

“The lack of communication gave birth to speculations and lies. We do not speak about the recovery of this money through the people. When we speak about recovery, we estimate that up to 5 billion lei will be recovered within criminal cases. What the state will pay to the National Bank will be in the form of dividends as the state is the only shareholder. The people will not even feel the burden of debt repayment,” stated the Speaker.

Andrian Candu added that when the loan of 14 billion lei was provided to the three banks involved in the bank frauds, the goal was not only to recover the money of depositors, but to also pay interest and the people lost no money.
