The people who think about suicide go through unbearable mental pain. They should yet know that solutions to pain exist. There is treatment and there are possibilities of speaking and of receiving support from those around and from specialists. Psychologist Liuba Ceban, founder of the Suicide Prevention Hotline, said it is very important not to leave these persons face to face with their pain, IPN reports.
In the event to open the Suicide Prevention Week 2021, Liuba Ceban said that any person, when experiencing pain, is constrained by that pain and feels being trapped in a tunnel without ways out. In such situations, it is good to speak about the experienced pain. It is not true that you only worsen the situation when you try to help someone who thinks about suicide. Those around should ask the suffering persons about their state and if they don’t think about suicide as it is often hard to see that a person has thoughts of suicide.
Liuba Ceban noted it is wrong to believe that if someone decided to commit suicide, no one can stop them. The people can stop a suicide by communication. In some of the cases, it is very hard, but it is possible.
Cristina Doroftei, coordinator of www.pentru viata.md, said the Suicide Prevention Hotline is an emotional support service that has worked for over eight years. The service works through the anonymous chat on www.pentruviata.md on Monday and Thursday, between 8am and 10pm, and through the email ajutor@pentruviata.md. The persons can write messages to the email address whenever they need and the service’s councilors will make effort to help them overcome the difficult situations these face.
Those who want to become councilors of the Suicide Prevention Hotline can contact the coordinators of the service. Before becoming councilors, they will attend a qualification course.
The Suicide Prevention Week 2021 ends on September 13.
