People warned to be careful when purchasing food products for Easter

The population is urged to purchase products for the Easter meal only from authorized places where the keeping conditions are respected and where the products are subject to sanitary-veterinary control. If the buyers have doubts about the quality of products, they can ask for quality compliance documents from the seller, IPN reports.

On its website, the Consumer Protection Agency warns that the sold meat must be elastic and pale pink to pale red in color and should get back its shape when being touched with the finger. It must not be sticky and have an unpleasant smell. The fresh fish must have red bronchi without ruptures. When purchasing pound cakes, the consumers must read the information from the label to see the use-by date and the used ingredients.

The eggs must have a clean and hard shell and must have the use-by date shown on the pack. When the egg is cracked, its white must not mix up with the yolk or be blurry.

The egg paint must have the food colorants it contains shown on the pack and the sellers must have a hygienic certificate for them. It is recommended not buying unpacked paint as this can be intended for other purposes such as typographic or textile and can pose a threat to health as it may contain heavy metals.

The Consumer Protection Agency can be informed about irregularities on the hotline 022 741 464 or 0 800 280 28 (free call from all the country’s districts).
