Orhei district has 75 settlements divided administratively into 38 mayor’s offices. The district’s population is over 116,000.

Lora Dahnovici, director of the Orhei-based public association “Demnitate” (“Dignity”), said the small settlements in Orhei district were merged into communes with one mayor’s office and there are no small villages with their own local administration.

The local public authorities over the last four years coped well. In Orhei town, all the households were connected to the water supply. A number of streets were repaired and a wastewater treatment station was constructed there.

During the next term in office, the local public authorities should focus on projects to erect social homes. The roads remain a topical problem. The central ones were mainly repaired, while the local ones are yet in a poor state.

Asked about the promises made in the previous election campaign, Lora Dahnovici said about 75% of them were fulfilled, these being delivered especially in Orhei town. She noted she would like the Democratic parties to win the local elections, but this will be rather hard given the reports about the large-scale thefts committed in the banking system.

Lora Dahnovici considers most of the people in Orhei district haven’t yet decided who to vote for on June 14.
