People from 14 states took part in Wine Day in Comrat

Winemakers from southern Moldova presented their products at the Wine Day festival (“Gagauz şarabin yortusu”) in Comrat on November 2. According to the Governor of Gagauzia Mihai Formuzal, invitees from 14 countries attended the event, IPN reports.

“It is a great event not only for the southern districts, but also for the whole country because it contributes to promoting and improving the quality of our wine. The festival is also important for developing the culture of wine drinking on the home market,” Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the event. On the occasion of the festival, he handed over the keys of the six minibuses intended for Gagauz lyceums. The vehicles form part of the donation made by the Government of Romania.

Afterward, Iurie Leanca and Mihail Formuzal put on by a people’s fleece vest and gave wine and sandwiches to visitors. Within the festival, there were chosen the best winemakers. Producers said this event is a good occasion for assessing the quality of their work.

Besides wines, the hundreds of people who came together in downtown Comrat could taste traditional Gagauz dishes and admire dances typical of the region. The event culminated with an open-air concert that involved artists from Moldova and Belarus. The Wine Day is annually celebrated in Comrat on the first Sunday of November.
