People can have free prophylactic medical test once a year

Moldova’s population has the right to gratis prophylactic medical examination once a year, even if the person is not insured medically.

Answering an inquiry by IPN, the National Health Insurance Company said the prophylactic medical test includes: anthropometry (measurement of the height and weight of the body), determination of the Body Mass Index, measurement of blood pressure and examination of skin, mouth, lymph nodes, thyroidal and mammary glands. These tests are done to persons older than 18.

Once in two years, the persons older than 40 can have their ocular tonometry tested. The same persons and those from the risk group can also have the blood sugar test annually. The first can also have the level of serum cholesterol determined. The Babesh-Papanicolau cytological test is done to women aged between 25 and 64, including those from the risk group, once in two years. Radiography/microradiography is done to persons from the risk group annually.

In order to benefit from primary medical care, the person must register with the family doctor. The prophylactic examination is organized and done by the family doctors and their teams using the measurement offices, the youth-friendly services center and the reproductive health office, when the person asks, without needing a special certificate.
