The pensions are both indexed and increased on April 1. The indexation coefficient is 13.94%, which is the rate of inflation at the end of 2021, and is applied to pensions lower than 9,900 lei. As a result of indexation, the minimum old-age pension will be 2,278.80 lei for a full contributory period, IPN reports.
Starting with April 1, the minimum disability pension for severe disability will be 1,709.10 lei, for moderate disability – 1,595.16 lei, while for mild disability – 1,139.40 lei.
Furthermore, the pensions calculated in accordance with the law on the public pension system are raised by a fixed sum of 171.71 lei as from April 1, 2022.
If the size of the pension calculated in accordance with the law is lower than the minimum pension for the given category, the difference between the two values will be covered with state budget funds in the form of a solidarity supplement. The solidarity supplement is a component of the pension that is not indexed. This varies annually depending on the indexation and increase in the calculated pension and the evolution of the minimum pension.
The pensions are indexed and increased by the National House of Social Insurance automatically, without additional applications being necessary. The state social benefits from which particular categories of citizens benefit are also recalculated.
