The pensioners will celebrate the New Year’s Eve modestly because their financial situation does not permit more. One of the reasons invoked by the majority is the too small pension that does not allow them to have a rich holiday meal. On holidays, the pensioners want peace, welfare and stability.

In a poll conducted by IPN on the streets of Chisinau, a number of pensioners said they will celebrate the New Year’s Eve at home, with the family. “I will stay at home with my husband. We celebrated Christmas on December 25 and I prepared a meal because our children came to visit us. We, the pensioners, do not celebrate often as our small pension does not allow us to. Now we will celebrate more modestly than earlier,” said pensioner Irina Iachimciuc.

Some of the elderly people will meet the New Year alone. “I will be alone because my children are abroad. My neighbors could possibly join me,” stated pensioner Tamila Pavlovich.

“This year I will have a modest New Year’s celebration. We will not have a rich meal, but will not remain hungry either. We hope for a brighter future. I think a change will take place in Moldova because the Moldovan people are kindhearted,” said pensioner Adela Gnatiuc.

“As usual on the New Year’s Eve, I will make meat jelly and forcemeat rolls of cabbage. I already prepared the salad of horse radish and beet. When we went on trips abroad, I prepared such food and everyone liked it. They became a tradition in our home,” said another pensioner Tatiana Ciorici.

The people also said that they want to be healthy in 2016 and voiced hope that next year will be a better one.
