Pensioners to protest today in front of Parliament Building

Pensioners who support the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” on September 25 will protest in front of the Parliament Building in Chisinau, where members and sympathizers of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the “Our Party” (PPPN) put up several dozen tents to protest against the government. In a news conference, the leaders of the Platform urged the protesters to avoid provocations and to demonstrate peacefully.

The leaders said they discussed with members of the two parties and were assured that these will not resort to use of violence and to altercations. “If they want to join in with us, they can do it, but should do it sincerely. If they pursue political goals, we will not cooperate with them,” said the head of the Council of the Great National Assembly Andrei Nastase.

Initially, the people protesting in the Great National Assembly Square planned to set up tents in front of the Parliament Building, but, given that those from the PSRM and PPPN already pitched tents there, they gave up. “As there were already pitched tents were citizens of Moldova stay, why should we put up more tents? It is regrettable that particular political leaders are trying to obtain political advantages from this event. As long as the desiderata of the people protesting there coincide with ours, we have no objection. The people will be the supreme judge and we welcome any person with noble goals who comes to demonstrate,” stated Andrei Nastase.

During the next two days, the members of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” intend to have meetings with people form the districts of Straseni, Cimislia, Falesti, Criuleni, Calarasi, Ungheni, and Balti.
