After over ten years, the Chisinau-based penitentiary No. 13 has been blessed. A cross was set up on the prison’s territory, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ana Druta, the head of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions’ Public Relations Division, said that after a number of rooms of the penitentiary were repaired and the proposal to build up a cross was accepted, the prison’s administration decided to organize a religious ceremony. “The prisoners backed and welcomed the idea. Discussions were held with the detainees. Those who wanted took part in the service. Those who did not remained in the cells. The penitentiary hasn’t been blessed for more than ten years. We can say that from now on it is under divine protection,” said Ana Druta. Priest Anton, bishop of Cahul and Comrat, blessed the employees and the detainees and urged each of those who did something wrong or bad to repent and pray to God. Detainee Toma Ochisar said that he will go to the cross and pray to God every day when going to walk. “Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins and we should not consider ourselves more important than the law,” he stated. Penitentiary No. 13 includes a remand unit and a semi-closed type prison for men.
