The fines for not obeying the fiscal legislation imposed on small businesses may be reviewed down, IPN reports, quoting the head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate Ion Prisacaru. In a program on Radio Moldova, Prisacaru said there was drafted a relevant bill that is to be approved by the Government and Parliament.

“Currently, the Tax Code stipulates heavy fines, of 10,000 lei, for small companies. For some of them, this sum is equal to their goods store. The sixe of the company should be taken into account when a fine is put,” he stated.

On the other hand, Prisacaru said there should be a balance between the size of the fine and the violation of the fiscal legislation identified as well as the damage caused to the budget.

This bill also provides for tougher penalties for companies that seriously violates the fiscal legislation.

“A fine of 700 lei is now imposed on those who ignore the law and perform illegal activities. If it is paid within three days, the fine is halved. This category of so-called economic entities cannot be disciplined with such fines. The fine should be increased 100 times and the goods or equipment used in the illegal activates should be confiscated,” said Ion Prisacaru.
