Penalties for local elected officials who will boycott referendum
The representatives of the local public administration who will boycott the September 5 constitutional referendum will be penalized, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in an interview broadcast by Privesc.eu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Premier said he will make an ordinance in the August 17 meeting of the Cabinet, which will be sent to all the state institutions, including the local public authorities that are obliged to observe the decision concerning the organization of the referendum. “Those who will not obey, will be penalized,” Vlad Filat said.
The statements come after a number of local elected officials, mainly representatives of the Communists Party, announced they will boycott the September 5 constitutional referendum and urge the voters not to take part in the plebiscite.
