Pedestrians injured in about 50% of car accidents
The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched on Monday, November 20 the special campaign “Pedestrian” aiming at preventing car accidents involving pedestrians. According to the police statistics, pedestrians are injured in about 50% of car accidents. On Monday alone, 4 pedestrians were injured in 4 car accidents.
According to the inspector of the Road Security Service, Administrative and Public Relations Department of the Road Police, Ion Roscovan, at 7.30 on Petricani Street 84, a BMW-318 hit a young woman aged 26.
On Dacia Boulevard, a woman aged 48, Cahul resident, suffered injury to shoulder as a result of an accident with a Ford-Transit.
Another unidentified woman, about 55 years old was hit on Ginta Latina Street by a Chevrolet Aveo, 1477 taxi service, driven by a young man aged 20. The woman was hospitalized in the intensive care section of the Emergency Hospital. She is 1.65 m tall and has light hair. She was wearing sport pants, green jacket and a tawny backpack. In Sangera town, an intoxicated man, aged 58 was injured by an Opel Astra, driven by a student of the Economic Studies Academy. He suffered a bone injury.
According to the cited source, about a half of those 2881 car accidents registered from the beginning of the year in Moldova involved pedestrians. Each 9th child killed or injured in car accidents was hit whilst crossing the street. At the same time, statistics show that only one out of 9 pedestrians were guilty of the occurred accidents.
On Monday, road inspectors fined 16 jaywalkers.
