Pedestrian street in Chisinau to be launched with delay

The pedestrian street in the center of Chisinau will be opened with delay. The costs of the laying out works will be three times higher than initially projected, said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who Friday made a fact-finding visit to Alexandru Diordita St, which is transformed into a pedestrian area, IPN reports.

After inspecting for an hour all the buildings and the works executed by employees of SA Termocom and SA Apa-Canal Chisinau, the mayor said that the volume of works is much larger than planned. Thus, they will not be completed in time. The works to replace the underground pipes will last for another five weeks. Afterward, the pavement will be laid and the green areas will be laid out.

The total cost of the project can be also increased. Initially, the works were estimated at €300,000, but they will most probably amount to about €1 million. The company that finances the project is ready to provide €350,000 at the first stage.

The section of Alexandru Diordita St between the streets Cosmonautilor and Columna was to become pedestrian from May 1. A new deadline was announced afterward – August 1. Today, Dorin Chirtoaca said the time limit will be extended until autumn, but the area will include distraction and recreational possibilities for the cold period of the year too.
