PDM’s initiative concerning raise in salaries is populist, PPPDA deputy head

The deputy head of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Alexandru Slusari said the Democratic Party’s initiative to raise the salaries of employees of mayor’s offices by up to 50% is nothing else but a cynical populist action. According to him, by increasing the salaries and allocating only 26 million lei from the state budget for the purpose, they aim to offset the lack of reforms in the local public administration and the billions of lei that the communities failed to obtain, IPN reports.

“During seven years while forming part of all the alliances and during the past two years and a half of unipersonal government, Plahotniuc and his gang of profiteers have done nothing to financially and administratively decentralize the country. Moreover, the regime did its best to transform Moldova into an excessively centralized state,” Alexandru Slusari wrote on a social networking site.

According to him, now the local authorities face a series of problems, starting with the management of the special funds for regions by public functionaries at the central level and the distribution of money according to political criteria and ending with the non-registration of most of buildings, plots and lakes of the territorial-administrative units as property of the local authorities.

Alexandru Slusari said that after threatening with the opening of criminal cases, the government will start to corrupt local decision makers. “Not long before the parliamentary elections, the dictator throws some crumbs of humiliation to several thousand representatives of villages and towns, knowing that the mayor’s offices, in conditions of absolute poverty, enjoy much greater confidence than the current anti-popular government,” he wrote.

The vice president of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari in a press briefing on July 10 presented an initiative providing that the salaries of employees of the local public authorities, respectively mayors and the personnel of mayor’s offices, mainly from communes, will be raised by up to 50% as of this August.
