The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova Marian Lupu told a news conference on Monday that the negotiations on the formation of a government coalition are delayed not because of the PDM as they say but because of its colleagues from the former Alliance for European Integration, especially the PLDM, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Owing to our colleagues from the former ruling alliance, enormous pressure is being exerted on the Democratic Party’s position in the consultations through the media, NGOs, opinion leaders and political analysts. We regret that attempts to exert pressure on us were also made through foreign officials with the aim of imposing conditions favoring other parties on the PDM,” Marian Lupu said. He also said that the pressure has different forms – from protests in front of the PDM’s head office to personal threats. “An example is the beating of one of the heads of the PDM’s district organization in Sangerei by representatives of the PLDM,” said Marian Lupu. The Democrat leader stated that the PDM insists on mechanisms that would automatically exclude possibilities of exerting pressure and of ruling Moldova in an authoritarian way. In another development, Marian Lupu said they are in favor of electing the head of state by decreasing the necessary number of votes from 61 to 51. “All the political parties that entered Parliament should express readiness to vote for such a proposal, showing political maturity. Otherwise, we risk having early elections again next year, but Moldova does not need them,” Marian Lupu said. He said a government program should be agreed, based on social polices, the promotion of a balanced policy in the relations with the Eastern partners and the continuation of the European integration efforts. Marian Lupu announced he will go to Germany on personal purposes on December 14, not to Moscow as the press reported. A new round of trilateral talks is set to take place on Tuesday. The PDM will be represented by Valeriu Lazar.
