PDM welcomes European Parliament’s interest in situation in Moldova

After the debates on Moldova held in the European Parliament on October 3, the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) issued a press release whereby it welcomes the EP’s interest in the situation in Moldova. The PDM notes with satisfaction that Moldova’s progress is recognized, including the economic growth and the efforts to modernize institutions and to adopt the laws needed to implement the Association Agreement with the EU, IPN reports, quoting the press release.

“In the discussions, there were stated diverse opinions, but most of the speakers expressed their support for Moldova’s European path and for providing the €100 million in macro-financial assistance to our country and this is gladdening,” said the PDM.

The party’s press service makes reference to the statements of the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Christos Stylianides, who said that the partnership between Moldova and the EU is fundamentally aimed at improving people’s lives. The Democratic Party says it is a position that the Democrats fully share. “We also agree, as another speaker said referring to our country, that there are yet many problems to be dealt with, but these can be solved with the EU’s support,” it noted.

The PDM welcomes the reiteration of the fact that the macro-financial assistance is useful in helping Moldova complete the proposed reforms so as to continue on the European course and to maintain the security climate in the region. “We realize that Moldova’s democratic and prosperous future can exist only by strengthening the ties with the European Union,” said the party.

It reasserted its commitment to continue to modernize Moldova in European spirit, including by promoting the independence of justice, fighting corruption and optimizing administration, consolidating the people’s freedoms and improving the business climate. “The PDM supports with all its forces the European destiny of the Republic of Moldova.”

The October 3 sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg was attended by Minister of Justice Vlad Cebotari and MP Sergiu Sarbu. They are both members of the PDM’s Standing Bureau.
