The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) considers the boycotting of the November 19 referendum to remove Dorin Chirtoaca from mayoralty is the most suitable solution for preventing the Socialists from taking control of the capital city, IPN reports.
In a press release, the PDM says that even if the situation in Chisinau requires major changes and the citizens’ dissatisfaction is fully justified, the way in which the referendum was initiated has nothing to do with people’s interests.
“As it was witnessed in the election campaign prior to this referendum, this was only an occasion for the Socialists to gain electoral benefits. For years the PSRM has blocked the work of the Chisinau Municipal Council for strictly political reasons and such an attitude shows that this party was not and is not interested in what is going on in the city as it wants to only politically subdue the City Hall,” says the party’s press release.
According to the PDM, by the referendum that will take place on November 19, the PSRM is trying to set a trap for the citizens of Chisinau and the parties of the right and to involve everyone into a political game as a result of which the Socialists would take control of the Chisinau City Hall.
