PDM stages National Stadium inauguration

Young members of the Democratic Party (PDM) held, what the called, a flashmob meeting on March 20, 2009, staging the inauguration of the National Stadium, which has been under reconstruction since the summer of 2007. Two young persons imitating President Vladimir Voronin and Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai were met with bread and salt at the entrance to the stadium. They cut the red ribbon. The event was staged because the authorities promised to build a new, modern stadium instead of the old one until the spring of 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports. The young man that was imitating Voronin wore a tricolor presidential scarf and had the PCRM badge at the chest, with the word “I vote”, while the ‘Premier’ wore at the neck a red scarf – which is the symbolic color of the PCRM. The other young persons attending the event had red balloons in hands and chanted: ‘Hurray People!”. Then the authorities were praised for their accomplishment. “From this moment, Moldova will achieve resounding successes, while the Moldovan sport will climb up in the world and European rankings,” one of the participants said ironically. Victor Zubcu, the president of the Youth Organization of the PDM, said that through this action the PDM wanted to sensitize the public opinion and the political class to the inaction and unfulfilled promises of the authorities. “It is a year since former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev got into a tractor and demolished the stadium. Now, instead of the promised new stadium, we have only ground and stones. The press says that different circles have economic interests in this stadium,” Zubcu said. The National Stadium was demolished in June 2007. According to an earlier project, a new stadium with a capacity of 20,000 seats, a large parking lot and a hotel was to be built instead of the old one.
