He stressed that in an increasing number of European countries, social-democratic parties won the elections. “Our parliamentary group which contains representatives from all the EU member countries is against rightist or leftist populism, and against the neo-liberalism that advocates reforms at all costs. The Moldovan Democratic Party supports the same strategy as us and has our full support”, said the European parliamentarian. The head of the Alliance of European Social-Democrats is convinced that Moldova belongs in the EU. He said that the path Moldova chose wouldn’t be easy, but it was more than only about economic aspect. It is about adopting European democratic values. Hannes Swoboda reiterated the commitment to support our country in reaching this goal. PDM leader and Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu expressed his confidence that “discussions with the colleagues from the European Championship will lead to concrete results through the implementation of common projects or through better cooperation at both party and parliamentary levels, and to thus contribute to the achievement of Moldova’s European integration goal. Marian Lupu and Hannes Swoboda announced they agreed on a memorandum of cooperation between PDM and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group in the EP, which will create a solid basis for future cooperation. The documents will be singed in the near future in Brussels. “On the basis of this memorandum, we’ll be able to send young people from PDM for internships in the European Parliament and to organize various events here in Moldova to promote democratic values. In this way, PDM will serve as an example to follow by other countries in the region”, said Hannes Swoboda.
