The Democratic Party (PDM) issued a press release saying that the party vehemently condemns the way in which several persons tried to enter the crowd with a minibus during the protest staged by the opposition on September 17 and to force their way through the police cordon that ensured public order. The incident could have had tragic consequences if the police hadn’t intervened promptly to stop the minibus, IPN reports, with reference to the press release.
The PDM calls on the competent institutions to immediately investigate the case and inform the public opinion about the authors of this deed. “We condemn the cynical way in which the leaders of the PAS and PDA Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase, who are the organizers of yesterday’s protest, waited passively to see how the minibus breaks through the police cordon. What happened yesterday during the opposition’s protest is an irresponsible act that the public opinion should know about, as it should know without delay about the results of the investigation into this particularly serious act that could have led to a tragic situation,” says the press release.
On September 17, the Great National Assembly Council mounted an anti-government protest. During the demonstration, a minibus was seized by the police. According to the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, the police sequestrated the minibus that was carrying amplifiers and other equipment used in the protest. The General Police Inspectorate issued a statement, saying that while the police was maintaining public order and safety, a Mercedes Sprinter minibus entered the crowd and moved to the police cordon, endangering the life and health of those who attended the protest. The driver, who actually wasn’t the owner of the car, ran away. A criminal case was started over the incident.
