PDM regrets PAS’ decision to support Andrei Nastase in mayoral elections

The Democratic Party (PDM) expressed its regret at the decision to support the candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Andrei Nastase taken by the Party “Action and Solitary” (PAS) that is led by Maia Sandu. In a press briefing on April 3, the spokesman for the PDM Vitalie Gamurari said Maia Sandu had real chances of being nominated the common candidate of the pro-European parties and of winning the mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

According to Vitalie Gamurari, the PPPDA and PAS adopted such a position without consulting the other pro-European parties and the situation witnessed in the campaign prior to the presidential elections in Moldova, when the presidency was won by the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon because the pro-European parties weren’t willing to cooperate, now repeats. “If this lack of unity continues to be seen, there are real chances for the Chisinau mayoralty to be won by the representative of the Socialists,” said the spokesman.

Vitalie Gamurari also said that the PDM is further open to have discussions on the nomination of a common candidate of all the pro-European parties. If all the pro-European parties reach an agreement about a common candidate, the PDM is ready to discuss and to give its support to this person. “Andrei Nastase is the candidate of two parties, not a common candidate. The PAS made the same mistake as the PPPDA – announced the candidate without trying to identify a common candidate together with the other pro-European parties,” added Vitalie Gamurari.
