The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) submitted the list of possible candidates for the presidency to their colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). The announcement was made by the leader of the party’s parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov in the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel on Monday evening. In the same program, the head of the Liberal-Democratic group Valeriu Strelet said the PLDM also has a list of candidates, which may be presented to the AEI colleagues on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dumitru Diacov refused to give names as two of the candidates asked not revealing their names until a decision is taken. “We will find out the other proposals tomorrow. Everyone will put forward objections, ideas and solutions,” he stated. Valeriu Strelet said the PLDM’s list includes seven persons, but also did not give names. During the program, a heated discussion arouse between Valeriu Strelet and the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Valeriu Munteanu. “The PL’s position to act as an arbitrator is rather convenient. If we, the PLDM and PDM, find a candidate who will be rejected by the PL, the Liberal Party will assume responsibility,” said Valeriu Strelet. He asked that the PL should clearly formulate the criteria according to which they will elect the President, as the leader of the group of Socialists Igor Dodon did. The latter said the candidate must be able to secure 58 votes, not be a party member and have only one nationality. Valeriu Munteanu replied that the PL will not field a candidate because it was rumored that the election of the President is delayed because of it. According to him, the Liberal Party considers that the future head of state must not be a member of the Communist Party, should not form part of an oligarchic group and promote only the interests of the country, not of other states as well. The AEI must identify a candidate for the presidency as soon as possible. The date of the presidential elections will be fixed afterward.
