The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc said the Republic of Moldova fully met the conditions imposed by the EU, but a European Parliament group that politically supports some of the opposition parties in Chisinau decided to ignore the fact that the Moldovans honored their obligations, doing hard reforms during the last few years. They decided that the citizens should be stripped of the promised and deserved money so that the PAS and PPPDA could enjoy electoral advantages in the upcoming parliamentary elections. In a press briefing, the Democratic leader said that if the political interest needs it, some in the European Union consider they can resort to this gesture that is incorrect towards the citizens for the simple reason that the Government refused to become involved and make sure that the election invalidation decisions taken by the court of law is changed, IPN reports.
Vlad Plahotniuc said the PDM remains fully committed to doing reform and implementing the good Western practices in Moldova, regardless of the political games that will be played by some. All the difficult reforms done until now were aimed at modernizing the state. “We understand very well the difference between actions generated by political interests and actions based on concrete results. In reality, this resolution promoted by Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase against the Moldovans will not achieve its cynical goal of seeing the citizens suffer financially as a result of it as the economic growth ensured by the Government of the Republic of Moldova during the last few years enables to continue and complete all these projects. Moreover, this enables us to launch new projects this year,” stated the politician.
According to Vlad Plahotniuc, the reforms under implementation are to be reviewed. These will be completed, but the priorities will be set depending on the people’s needs. The PDM remains firmly committed to the reform path and the path to the West, both politically and in terms of the strategic development direction.
At the suggestion of the Group of the European People’s Party, the European Parliament, with 345 votes in favor, 160 abstentions and 35 votes against, adopted a resolution by which it recommends the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
