PDM launches discussions on its future social platform

The Democratic Party (PDM) opened discussions on its platform themed “A Social Platform for a European Moldova” that will be presented in autumn. At the meeting of the party’s National Council on Saturday, June 12, the Democrat leader Marian Lupu said the platform will include things that should have been done during 20 years, what the people want and what the voters expect, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu said that Moldova is a poor country and there is a risk that the present state of affairs will become chronic and irrecoverable. “The self-isolation of the political class and its transformation into a closed and arrogant caste, and the neglecting of the civil society’s opinions lead to failures in the process of managing the country. We want to avoid the mistakes committed by others and call on the representatives of the NGO sector and independent experts to help us formulate the party’s political strategies and plans,” said Marian Lupu. The party’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov stressed that Moldova needs a social policy based on powerful economy, investments, and workplaces. “We do not want to promote populism and destroy the economy,” Dumitru Diacov said, adding the social platform is also a government program. The vice chairman of the PDM, Valentina Buliga, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family, said the agenda envisions the signing of different conventions on the children with disabilities and children who remained without parents, on the observance of human rights and the prevention of discrimination. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said a new social agenda for Moldova means new workplaces. The state must make sure that the people are able to find jobs according to their qualifications and are paid decent salaries. The engagement of the best experts in working out sustainable investment policies is the PDM’s task and the efforts in this respect will be stepped up. Minister of Culture Boris Focsa, who is also a member of the PDM, said the cultural sector has been neglected for many years. “The country faces a spiritual crisis and needs appropriate legislation. The PDM will do everything possible to overcome the crisis in culture,” he said. More than 1,000 persons took part in the event. A social agenda will be formulated on the basis of the presented reports and will be made public in autumn.
