The vote expressed by the citizens of Chisinau municipality on June 3 is definitely one in favor of keeping the capital city on the path of pro-European development, the Democratic Party (PDM) has said. According to the party, even if the vote was powerfully geopolitical too, the important signal given by the voters in the capital city is that the Republic of Moldova remains a state with European aspirations that is willing to modernize, IPN reports.
The PDM congratulated all the voters who cast their ballots in the first round of the mayoral elections and in the runoffs in Chisinau municipality and expressed its hope that a change of attitude will be now witnessed on the Chisinau Municipal Council and they will work for Chisinau, not against it and the political struggles and interests of any kind will be eliminated.
“The Chisinau City Hall is now controlled by opposition political forces and this is good for the balance of powers in a state. Also, the opposition of the right can now assume an important responsibility and can work for the people and produce results by action,” it is said in the PDM’s press release.
The party also noted the democratic way in which the mayoral elections were held in Chisinau municipality, despite the speculations made before the first round of the mayoral elections and before the runoff vote. It expressed its confidence that now that the elections are over, the period of political instability in Chisinau will come to an end and the City Hall will immediately start to deal with the multiple problems faced in the capital city.
