The ruling Democratic Party (PDM) said it took notice of the eminently political resolution adopted by the European Parliament by a number of MEPs who belong especially to the parliamentary group that includes two parties of which two opposition parties of Moldova are members. In a message published on Facebook by the party’s spokesman, it is said it’s regrettable that the political war in Moldova was exported to the European Parliament by several Moldovan political leaders who resort to gestures aimed against the Moldovans only with the aim of achieving their evil goals, IPN reports.
“We see that by today’s vote the political group that initiated the motion showed that instead of supporting Moldova and its citizens, regardless of their political orientations, they prefer to support only particular extraparliamentary political parties and their leaders. We also see that the resolution didn’t arouse the MEPs’ interest as this was debated with the hall almost empty and most of those who form part of the party that initiated this were absent. This shows once again that the adoption decision was taken non-transparently and strictly politically, without a consistent debate,” reads the message.
According to the PDM, the resolution wasn’t adopted by consensus. There were many voices that criticized the initiators of this document and also harsh and argued criticism of its content. “This resolution could significantly diminish the Moldovans’ trust in the European Union after hitting a record high during the mandate of the current government,” says the message.
The message also said that the administration of the PDM, the Government and Parliament will issue broader official statements that will also specify the way in which they will act further to make sure that the citizens benefit from the economic growth witnessed in the country after they had to endure the effects of difficult, but necessary reforms and the effects of the EU’s harsher conditionality during a long period of time.
At the suggestion of the Group of the European People’s Party, the European Parliament, with 345 votes in favor, 160 abstentions and 35 votes against, adopted a resolution by which it recommends the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
