The Democratic Party (PDM) expressed its no confidence to Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet and urged him to resign. The Democrats propose re-forming the Alliance for European Integration and forming a new parliamentary majority, by attracting other pro-European forces. The announcement was made by the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu after the meeting of the Council of the Alliance for European Integration in the evening of October 28, IPN reports.
After the meeting, the Liberal-Democratic Premier Valeriu Strelet said he proposed a plan of action with commitments and reforms for the immediate period. His colleagues examined it and promised that they will analyze the proposals in detail. The representatives of the PDM didn’t say it clearly whether they will vote for the no-confidence motion submitted by the Socialist and Communist MPs or not.
Marian Lupu said the measures contained in the plan presented by the Premier were already included in the political agreement of the alliance and in the government program. Until there is no pro-European parliamentary majority, not the current 50 votes ‘plus the one that is behind bars’, this plan is of no use. The PDM expressed its no confidence to the Strelet Government given the Premier’s confidence after October 15 and invited him to tender his resignation so as not to witness the no-confidence vote in Parliament.
The Democrats’ leader said that in the current situation the alliance should be re-formed and a new pro-European majority should be formed within two weeks. In the case of re-formation, the negotiations can last short, including with the participation of those of the Leanca group and other unaffiliated MPs. The government formula can remain unchanged and the PDM is flexible in this respect.
The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu reiterated that the Liberals will not vote for the no-confidence motion, but he fears that the second Premier could be dismissed for acts of corruption on Thursday. “We want a government for the people. We want political stability. What the Premier presented today contains nothing new,” he stated, noting that they didn’t discuss the possibility of supporting the no-confidence motion or the dismissal within the party.
In the October 29 sitting of Parliament, the lawmakers are to examine the no-confidence motion tabled by the Socialist and Communist MPs.
