PDM does not have a credible development project for Moldova, opinion

The Democratic Party (PDM) does not have a credible development project for the country. This can be deducted from the strange proposals formulated by this party in the recent past, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski stated, referring to the PDM’s initiative to amend the Constitution so that the judges could be chosen by the people, IPN reports.

Vlad Kulminski said that by this initiative the Democratic Party wants to create another informational background and to distract attention from very unpleasant subjects. “I’m absolutely sure that we will witness a series of new ideas in the nearest future. I hope we will not launch a satellite into cosmos as this is not within our power. The PDM’s goal is to create another informational background amid which the Democratic Party will try to show that it is actually a party that thinks about the people’s needs. (...) It seems to me that this is a kind of ideological impasse as very strange, even aleatory ides started to be presented. To my mind, this means that the PDM does not really have a credible development project for the county,” he stated.

Programs director of the Legal Resources Center of Moldova Nadejda Hriptievski said this is a populist initiative formulated out of despair or out of indifference. “This initiative is doomed to failure if Parliament continues to be captured and will be guided not by the public interest, but by narrow interests. As we have narrow groups in Parliament, the intention is to transfer that “good practice” from the legislature to the judicial system,” Nadejda Hriptievski sated in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

According to her, several good laws on justice were lately adopted to reform this sector, but the initiative concerning the direct election of judges annihilates all these actions.

Political analyst Roman Mihăeș said a revolutionary measure is needed in the justice sector given that the people disapprove of the way in which justice is done in Moldova. “This is a good solution that can lead to the improvement of justice, can help reduce corruption in the system and can bring the people closer to justice,” he noted.

The leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc on October 9 announced that the Democratic Party will propose an amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova so that this allows for the election of judges by the people.
