The Democratic Party (PDM) condemns the way in which the Republic of Moldova was represented by President Igor Dodon in Brussels. In a press release, the PDM says the statements made by the Head of State during his official visit to Brussels are completely different from what the foreign policy strategy promoted by the Government and the parliamentary alliance provides and these run counter to the country’s and the people’s interests, IPN reports.
“We ascertain that the Head of State’s visit turned into a party one during which President Igor Dodon presented rather the message of the Party of Socialists and the political projects of this party. The Head of State didn’t act like the President of all the Moldovans. He neglected the wish of the majority of people, who in the last parliamentary elections voted for continuing Moldova’s European course and for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU,” says the press release.
The PDM considers the Republic of Moldova should swiftly leave this debate between pro-Europeans and pro-Russians. The challenge is to show what everyone can do for the country so that the foreign assistance received by the Republic of Moldova, no matter where it comes from, is used efficiently. Moldova will be pro-European by the way in which it will modernize itself. It will have good cooperation relations with the Russian Federation by the way in which solutions will be found for the Moldovans who are there and by the joint capacity to solve the problems that partially block economic cooperation. The foreign policy should not consist of loud statements only, but should also promote efficient cooperation with the development partners from which the Republic of Moldova would gain maximum benefits for its people.
“To eliminate possible confusion generated by the latest actions of President Igor Dodon concerning the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova, the PDM already prepared a document to confirm the most important commitments defined in the country’s development strategy, including as regards our foreign partnerships, such as the Association Agreement with the EU and the program with the IMF,” said the party.
According to the PDM, the document will be discussed within the coalition and will be then debated and adopted in the first plenary meeting of Parliament this year.
