The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) expresses its concern about the events in Ukraine and the worsening of the situation there. “Regretfully, the developments in the neighboring country do not show signs of stabilization and this can have dramatic consequences,” the PDM says in a statement, quoted by IPN.
According to the statement, “a possible humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine represents a major regional risk which we should be ready to cope in Moldova too. We share the wish of the Ukrainian people and government to overcome this crisis situation peacefully, as soon as possible, by preserving the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This desideratum implies the renouncing of military intervention and radical acts that contribute to the escalation of conflicts.
“Our position in this matter is based on the ordinary support we offer to a country with which we want to have good neighborhood relations and on the fact that we have considerable communities of co-nationals of Ukrainian ethnicity in Moldova. We must not forget that we have a frozen conflict in the Transnistrian region, which should be solved by peaceful ways and by respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova.”
The PDM calls on all the sides that can contribute to peacefully solving the crisis in Ukraine to take steps in this respect, by observing the accords that form the system of security guarantees in the region and the principles of international law. The adherence to the Basic Human Rights should be confirmed, first of all to the right to life.
The UN, the OSCE, the EU, the CIS, the Black Sea countries, the U.S. and certainly Russia are obliged to obtain an immediate improvement and the fast overcoming of the crisis in Ukraine by political and diplomatic methods, without the use of military force, considers the PDM.
