The candidate of the Democratic Party (PDM) for mayor of Vorniceni village of Straseni district Rodica Jereghi has been threatened with an ax, the party’s vice president Valentina Buliga said in a news conference on April 22. “We think the action was planned by an electoral party with a very dirty past. We sought help from the competent bodies and will make public details when we have them,” said Valentina Buliga. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Rodica Jereghi said that in the evening of April 21, when she returned home from work, she found the door of the house open. In the dormitory, there was an ax and several photos of the members of her family scattered on the floor. A number of pictures of her two children were stolen. Rodica Jereghi presumes that former members of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) are involved in this case, including the ex-mayor of the village Gheorghe Ionel, who earlier harassed her. After the AMN merged with the Liberal Democratic Party, those persons wanted to join the PDM, but were not accepted. “They exert pressure and make threats because we do not accept them as they have a very dirty past. When they headed the village, they terrorized those who are now members of the PDM. Now they want to join the PDM and maintain terror in the village,” said Rodica Jereghi. The PDM’s candidate stated that she was threatened over the phone as well. “They told me they will throw me out of the window, will hit me in the head. They are capable of doing harm,” said Rodica Jereghi. According to the PDM, the private company of the head of the party’s local organization in Vorniceni Ion Sturza was attacked last night, while the firm’s guard was severely beaten.
