The Democratic Party is calling the Party of Socialists and the political bloc ACUM to dialog in a bid to unblock the “deep political crisis into which Moldova has plunged”. This was announced by Andrian Candu, the party’s vice president, during a press conference.
The party’s top leadership will not be involved, said Candu. Instead, PDM vice president Vladimir Cebotari will head a team of second-tier members that will conduct the talks.
Candu argued political dialog is needed because “there are little or no legal solutions” to the current crisis, as the recent Constitutional Court rulings cannot be reviewed or revoked. The CC, he went on, is the only authority vested with the power to interpret the Constitution and anyone who fails to comply with its rulings could face punishment.
The politician says that taking power and going into opposition must take place democratically and legally, not abusively and illegally. That is why PDM wants snap elections, because “the citizens deserve to choose who needs to be in power and who in opposition.”
Asked to comment on the Cabinet dismissals ordered by Maia Sandu, Andrian Candu described her Government as “illegitimate and illegal”. As for the great number of police officers cordoning off the Government building, Candu said this was done in the context of a “vulnerable period”.
When asked about Igor Dodon’s three scenarios of development, Candu called them “stupid” and “victim-playing” and advised Dodon to be “more responsible when making statements”.
