PD-L candidates pledge Romanian citizenship for all Romanians

The candidates on behalf of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) for the college of communities from Eastern Europe and Asia in the Parliament of Romania, Eugen Tomac and Viorel Badea, promise to amend the law on Romanian citizenship within six months so that every Romanian could apply or regain the citizenship. The PD-L candidates presented their political program in Chisinau on November 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Bessarabia, the citizenship is your right!” is the slogan of the PD-L candidate for MP in the Romanian Parliament Eugen Tomac, adviser on the relations with the Romanians from everywhere to the President of Romania Traian Basescu. The Romanian citizenship for all the Romanians is also the first point in the political program of Tomac, who pledges to struggle so that all the Romanians from abroad could obtain citizenship through a transparent and quick procedure. “I am one of the millions of Bessarabian Romanians that have waited to regain the Romanian nationality for six years. I know very well what difficulties the Romanians that want to regain the citizenship experience,” Eugen Tomac said while presenting his program. “We are in such a situation because the PSD Government did not want to negotiate so that we had a special treatment and attitude and the Romanians from everywhere enjoyed the same treatment as the Romanians from Romania. We cannot respect our values when we cannot visit our country in a normal and civilized way,” the PD-L candidate for MP said. Besides Romanian citizenship, Eugen Tomac pleads for the cancellation of visas for all the Romanians from abroad, for all Romanians’ right to choose and be represented, for equal access to the labor market, for economic growth for the Romanians from everywhere, for European administration and Romanian institutions close to the Romanians, etc. Viorel Badea, PD-L candidate for senator in the Parliament of Romania, said that PD-L is the only party whose program contains a special chapter about the Romanian communities from outside Romania. According to Badea, PD-L has a program aimed first of all at helping the Romanians from all over the world regain the national dignity. Also, the PD-L program envisions the reconstruction of Romanian schools and libraries, the reopening of the university extensions in Balti and Cahul, the resumption of programs for the Bessarabian and Bucovinian children, etc. “Our obligation is not to be selfish. We entered the European Union and must help our brothers from over the Prut to also become part of the EU. Bessarabia and Northern Bucovina expect that we will meet in the EU,” said the PD-L vice president Gheorghe Flutur, who came to Chisinau to support the two PD-L candidates. Eugen Tomac and Viorel Badea had been also supported by MEP Maria Petre, the secretary general of the Romanian World Council Nicolae Popa, the Mayor General of Chisinau and vice president of the Liberal Party (PL) Dorin Chirtoaca, the PL president Mihai Ghimpu and the president of the PL faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council Corina Fusu, the former Tiraspol political prisoners Alexandru Lesco and Tudor Popa. “The Romanian citizenship will permit to end the dispute as to where Moldova goes. With Romanian citizenship, the integration into Europe will be closer and faster. I think that through their program, Eugen Tomac and Viorel Badea offer us their support in this direction,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. Under the new election legislation of Romania, representatives of the Romanians from abroad can be also voted for in the November 30 elections for the Romanian Parliament. There were formed four uninominal colleges for the Chamber of Deputies and two colleges for the Senate, depending on the geographic area. The three most important Romanian parties fielded candidates for the college of communities from Eastern Europe and Asia. PD-L put forward the presidential adviser Eugen Tomac, the Social Democratic Party – the first Ambassador of Moldova to the UN Tudor Pantaru, while the National Liberal Party – writer Nicolae Dabija.
